Galatasaray issue statement on injury suffered by Victor Osimhen during win at Sivasspor
Published: December 09, 2024Through a statement on their official website, Galatasaray have released an update on the injury suffered by Victor Osimhen during the 3-2 win over Sivasspor in the Süper Lig fixture played yesterday.
The Nigerian striker, who was on the scoresheet in the game, picked up an injury in the second half and was replaced by Victor Nelsson in the 76th minute.
After undergoing the required medical tests, it has been revealed that the 25-year-old suffered a moderate strain and bleeding was discovered in the right upper back muscle.
He has begun treatment, but it was not stated how long he will be out. His injury is a big blow for Okan Buruk’s side.
The Lion are already without star striker Mauro Icardi, and the addition of Osimhen to the treatment table could affect their objectives for the season, particularly if the latter will also be sidelined for a while.
Buruk will now have to rely on Michy Batshuayi to deliver the goods as they continue their quest to win the Turkish top flight for the third consecutive season and go as far as possible in the UEFA Europa League.
Courtesy of the victory over Sivasspor, Galatasaray are six points clear of second-placed Fenerbahçe in the Super Lig standings.
They are also in a good position to secure one of the automatic qualification spots for the rounds of 16 in the Europa League.
