'He's a top player' - Atalanta's Lookman hails Vinicius ahead of difficult match against Real Madrid
Published: December 09, 2024Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has expressed his admiration for Real Madrid's Vinicius Jnr as his team gears up for a challenging UEFA Champions League encounter on Tuesday at the Gewiss Stadium.
Lookman, who has been instrumental for Atalanta in the tournament, has netted two goals and provided one assist in four matches, helping the Italian side secure a strong position in the competition.
Currently sitting fifth in the UEFA Champions League table with eleven points from five games, Atalanta finds itself in a promising position to qualify for the quarterfinals.
However, Lookman is aware of the formidable challenge that Real Madrid poses and has cautioned his teammates against complacency.
In a press conference held on Monday, Lookman emphasized the need for focus and preparation ahead of the match.
"It will be a very difficult match for us tomorrow," he stated, as quoted by Tuttomercatoweb.
"We will be very focused on how to set up the match. Tomorrow will be an additional challenge for us, what we have done in the past belongs to the past, tomorrow we will have the opportunity to give our best."
Lookman also took the time to laud his opponent, Vinicius Jnr, referring to him as a ‘top player.’
He remarked, "He is a player who plays good football, he is a top player."
Acknowledging the strength of Real Madrid, Lookman noted, "Real have many phenomenal players, but they have a group, a team. We too will have to demonstrate our qualities."
As both teams prepare for the crucial encounter, Lookman will hope to lead Atalanta to a famous victory in the Champions League.
