Ex-Super Eagles invitee's brother in contention to make debut for Chelsea in historic game v Astana
Published: December 12, 2024
Richard Olise, younger brother of 2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise, will receive his first-ever call-up to Chelsea's first team on Thursday evening when the Premier League side take on Astana in the UEFA Conference League, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The talented fullback was named in Chelsea's travelling squad to Kazakhstan ahead of the clash at Ortalyq stadıon in Almaty.
With only twenty players available for selection, Richard Olise is certain to be included in Chelsea's matchday squad, provided he does not suffer an injury during the pre-match warm-up.
The academy product has benefited from manager Enzo Maresca's decision to rest key players ahead of his team's Premier League clash with Brentford.
Chelsea's meeting with Astana in the Conference League is historic, being the club's longest-ever journey for a European match.
Olise is competing with Josh Acheampong, Kaiden Wilson and Harrison Murray-Campbell for the right-back position.
The Anglo-Nigerian defender has six outings to his name in this season's Premier League 2, registering a goal and an assist, and started against the first teams of Bromley, Charlton Athletic and Cambridge United in the EFL Trophy.
Nigerian duo Tosin Adarabioyo and Tyrique George are expected to be named in Chelsea's matchday squad against Astana, having both been named in the traveling party to Kazakhstan.
Forwards Geoffrey Chinedu and Nnamdi Ahanonu are on the books of Astana and it remains to be seen whether they will be involved in some capacity against Chelsea.
