What Leicester coach Ruud van Nistelrooy said about Ndidi's injury and expected return date
Published: December 12, 2024
Leicester City's coach Ruud van Nistelrooy has ruled out Wilfred Ndidi's involvement in his side's Premier League clash with Newcastle United at St James' Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Super Eagles midfielder picked up an injury last weekend in the 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion at the King Power Stadium and was replaced by Oliver Skipp before the hour mark as a result of the injury.
Ndidi is one of the players to have played every game in the Premier League this term.
Only goalkeeper Mads Hermansen and right full-back James Justin have played more minutes than him in Leicester City's squad.
He has proven to be one of the most industrious players in the division, registering 48 tackles this season, which is only bettered by Crystal Palace's Daniel Muñoz and Wolverhampton Wanderers João Gomes.
The 27-year-old's absence will be a huge miss for Leicester City as they seek to maintain their top-flight status.
Speaking at his pre-match conference ahead of Saturday's clash with Newcastle, Ruud van Nistelrooy confirmed that Ndidi will miss the game and provided a timeframe for his return to action.
"He has a hamstring injury, so he’s not available for [Saturday's] game," Ruud van Nistelrooy said to Leicester City's official webpage.
"We’re looking at his progress and how he will react to the injury, but it looks like it’s at least a couple of weeks."
Ruud van Nistelrooy was recently appointed as the Foxes’ boss, replacing Steve Cooper.
