'Back to the wall' - Warri-born former Man City CB predicts the outcome of Man City v Man Utd

Warri-born former Manchester City central defender Nedum Onuoha has shared his insights on the upcoming Manchester Derby, where City will face off against their rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium this Sunday evening.

Both teams have experienced a rough patch recently, with City winning just one of their last ten matches across all competitions.

Meanwhile, Manchester United is grappling with inconsistencies despite the sacking of Erik Ten Hag, having lost their last Premier League clash at home against Nottingham Forest.

Despite these challenges, Onuoha remained optimistic about City's chances. Analyzing the match on ESPN, he emphasized that a win for City could reignite their season.

"A big result for City could be the belief that they need because we have been talking about confidence," he stated.

"If you beat those rivals and can reconnect with the fans you can start looking up the table again. Then I think it could change anything for them."

Onuoha predicted that Manchester City would not only avoid defeat but could secure a victory, despite the prevailing doubts and anxieties surrounding the team.

"Even though we have that doubt and anxiety, they still very much have the ability to win," he noted.

He mentioned that the game might turn into a "back to the wall type of thing," highlighting the importance of resilience in the face of challenges.

''Maybe it is going to be one of those back to the wall type of thing as you are going to be making challenges or whatever."

Onuoha further suggested a potential scoreline of 2-2, "just to keep Manchester United fans happy," while clearly expressing his hopes for a City victory.

"But I think they have got the ability to do whatever it takes to firstly not lose and the 2-2 is just to keep Manchester United fans happy, because I am definitely rooting for a City win."

As it stands, Manchester City are currently sitting fifth in the Premier League standings with 27 points from 15 games, while Manchester United finds themselves languishing in thirteenth place with just 19 points from the same number of matches.

The upcoming derby is poised to be a critical encounter for both teams as they seek to improve their fortunes in the league.
