Nigerian exports: Super-sub Akpom nets crucial goal for Ajax; Botev Plovdiv's Akere scores in vain

Allnigeriasoccer.com's round-up of the Nigeria-eligible players who scored for their respective clubs in matches across Europe on Thursday, December 19.

Ajax Amsterdam are through to the round of 16 of the TOTO KNVB Beker after a hard-fought 2-0 win against Telstar at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

Super Eagles hopeful Chuba Akpom made a difference off the bench as he doubled Ajax's lead with four minutes left on the clock.

The Hale End Academy graduate expertly nodded a low cross into the net, with the ball glancing off the underside of the bar on its way in.

Akpom has now scored seven goals in the 26 matches he has played for Ajax this season, including 14 starts.

Elsewhere, young Nigerian winger Samuel Akere was on the scoresheet at the Hristo Botev Stadium as Botev Plovdiv suffered a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Ludogorets in the Bulgarian top flight.

Akere broke the deadlock inside five minutes when he fired a brilliant shot past goalkeeper Sergio Padt after he was teed up by Ivelin Popov.

Goals from Rwan Cruz (2), Rick Lima and Jakub Piotrowski gave the visitors a 4-1 lead before Aleksa Maras reduced the deficit in the 63rd minute.

The 20-year-old Akere now has three goals to his name in twenty matches in the 2024-2025 season.
