Iwobi, Bassey feature as Fulham beat Chelsea for the first time at Stamford Bridge in PL era
Published: December 26, 2024Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey were in action as Fulham recorded a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to record their first-ever triumph on the Blues’ patch since the inception of the Premier League.
Cole Palmer got Enzo Maresca's side off to a flying start, darting past Fulham's defence to slot Levi Colwill's pass in between Bernd Leno's legs.
Bassey could have put the Cottagers back on level terms when he beat his markers inside the penalty area before aiming for goal, but his effort was saved by Robert Sánchez.
Six minutes before the hour mark, Iwobi came close to scoring, unleashing a shot from the edge of the box, but it drifted wide.
Harry Wilson finally scored for Fulham in the 82nd minute, heading the ball home from close range after Timothy Castagne's header came his way.
Sanchez denied Iwobi from getting the winner when the Nigerian midfielder was fed with a through ball, but the Spanish goalkeeper quickly came off his line to deny him from registering an attempt.
Five minutes into the stoppage time, Rodrigo Muniz grabbed the winner for Fulham, slotting the ball into the bottom right corner from Saša Lucia's pass.
Today's triumph is the Cottagers’ first victory at Stamford Bridge since 1979.
