'We shouldn't confuse the player' - Galatasaray coach provides update on Osimhen's future
Published: December 26, 2024Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk has provided a clear update regarding the future of Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen, who has been making headlines with his impressive performances in Turkey.
Since joining Galatasaray on loan from Napoli this summer, Osimhen has become a key player for the Turkish side, netting twelve goals and providing five assists in fifteen matches across all competitions.
His stellar form has sparked speculation about a potential move to several top European clubs, including Chelsea and PSG.
However, amidst the swirling rumours, Buruk emphasized that the club intends to keep Osimhen until the end of the season.
He expressed a desire to make Osimhen's loan a permanent transfer but acknowledged the importance of allowing the player to focus on his game without distraction.
"Osimhen will stay until the end of the season. Of course I would like to buy Osimhen's contract. He is happy here too," Buruk stated in an interview with Demirören News Agency, via Fanatik.
Despite his strong admiration for Osimhen, Buruk acknowledged that it is not the right moment to pursue a deal, primarily due to economic considerations.
"I don't think it is right to go after the player during this process. It is not right from an economic perspective either. It is not right from a financial perspective either. I think it is too early."
He also highlighted the likelihood of the club exploring the possibility of a move at the end of the season.
"The club may make this move towards the end of the season but right now we are looking at the situation a bit from a tabloid perspective."
Additionally, he expressed concern about the potential negative impact of the ongoing speculation on the player, noting that the player has committed to remaining with the club until June.
"The player's mind needs to be left alone. We want to buy him. But we shouldn't confuse the player. He explained this and told us. He said he will finish the season at Galatasaray."
As the winter transfer window approaches, all eyes will remain on Osimhen's situation, but for now, both the player and the club are focused on maintaining their strong position in the league.
