Ola Aina joins Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool stars in Jamie Carragher's PL Team of the Season so far
Published: December 31, 2024
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has picked his Premier League Team of the Season for the first half of the 2024-2025 campaign, with Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina making the cut.
The Nigeria international is one of the first names on manager Nuno Espírito Santo's team sheet, having started all the league games contested by the two-time European champions this term.
Aina has helped goalkeeper Matz Sels post an impressive eight clean sheets from nineteen games this season.
The Chelsea academy graduate has also impressed offensively with two goals to his name in his last ten games in the top flight.
Six different clubs have contributed players to Carragher's Team of the Season, namely Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, Fulham, Liverpool, Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
In a 4-2-3-1 formation, goalkeeper David Raya is protected by a back four of Ola Aina, Nikola Milenković (Nottingham Forest), Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) and Antonee Robinson (Fulham), while the holding midfielders are Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool) and Moisés Caicedo (Chelsea).
Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Matheus Cunha (Wolverhampton Wanderers) and Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest) have been deployed in forward positions.
Explaining his choice of Aina, Carragher said on Sky Sports: "Ola Aina plays right-back and left-back. Every time I watch him he does that job on both sides, and every time I watch him I do look at him and think he could play for a team who expects to be in the Champions League every season.
"It's the defensive side of it that really impresses me so I felt like I had to get two of their defenders in there."
Nottingham Forest are keen to tie down Ola Aina to a new deal amid interest from Premier League giants Manchester City.
