Nigeria squad announcement: Alimi, Ismail, Nduka, Ali, 22 others called up for pre-CHAN training camp

Stand-in coach of the Super Eagles B team, Daniel Ogunmodede, has unveiled a 26-man squad ahead of Nigeria’s preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.

The announcement follows Nigeria's successful qualification, having triumphed over Ghana with a 3-1 aggregate victory in the qualifiers.

The Super Eagles B first played to a goalless draw in Accra, before securing a 3-1 win in Uyo to book their ticket for the competition.

The squad features a mix of experienced players and promising talents, including three goalkeepers, ten defenders, six midfielders, and seven forwards.

Leading the list of goalkeepers is Kayode Bankole from Remo Stars, with Henry Ozoemena of Enyimba FC, and Badmus Gbadamosi of Kwara United completing the trio.

One of the standout inclusions is Sadiq Ismail, the talented Remo Stars defender, who is reportedly on the brink of joining Albanian side FK Partizani in the winter transfer window.

He is joined by Nasarawa United’s Victor Collins, who earned a call-up to the Super Eagles for their recent 2025 AFCON qualifier clashes against Benin and Rwanda in November.

Veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali of Kano Pillars also made the list, despite playing a limited role in the CHAN qualifiers.

Ali will be joined by Jide Fatokun and other midfielders including Saviour Isaac of Rangers International, Musa Zayyad of El-Kanemi Warriors, and Papa Daniel Mustapha of Niger Tornadoes.

In the forward line, Ogunmodede has opted for the top scorer of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Anas Yusuf of Nasarawa United, along with other attacking threats such as Sikiru Alimi of Remo Stars, Emmanuel Ogbole of Kwara United, and Plateau United’s Adamu Abubakar and Temitope Vincent.

The team is set to begin closed-camping on Monday, January 6, at the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ikenne-Remo, where they will continue preparations for the 8th edition of the CHAN, which runs from February 1-28, 2024.

The tournament will feature 18 countries, including joint-hosts Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda, alongside Nigeria, Morocco, Guinea, Senegal, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Niger Republic, Congo, Sudan, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Angola, and Madagascar.
