Jordan Torunarigha: Super Eagles CB on Anderlecht's radar as Gent's future hangs in the balance
Published: January 09, 2025Belgian Pro League giants Anderlecht are reportedly monitoring the situation of Super Eagles central defender Jordan Torunarigha amid uncertainty over his future at KAA Gent.
The former Germany youth international has entered the last six months of his contract at Gent and can sign a preliminary contract with one of the clubs interested in services this month.
According to transfer market reporter Sacha Tavolieri, Gent have offered a new contract to Torunarigha but he's refusing to put pen to paper on the two-year deal, casting doubt on his future at the club.
Should no agreement be reached by June 30, 2025, Torunarigha is set to leave as a free agent, which would greatly weaken Gent's defensive strength.
Anderlecht are actively seeking defensive reinforcements and have identified the 26-year-old as a potential target.
Last summer, the Hertha Berlin academy graduate was linked with possible moves to Torino, Crystal Palace, Leeds United and Hoffenheim but stayed put at Gent after the window closed for business.
With 23 matches under his belt this season, Torunarigha now has 127 appearances for Gent, contributing four goals and six assists in total.
Torunarigha registered a top speed of 35 kilometers per hour, bettered by only three central defenders in the Belgian top-flight during the 2023-2024 season.
He has not played for the Super Eagles since making his international debut in a friendly against Mozambique in October 2023.
