Olympiakos in advanced talks to sign Super Eagles left-back Onyemaechi after N4.1b offer
Published: January 22, 2025Olympiakos are reportedly in advanced discussions to secure the signing of Nigerian left-back Bruno Onyemaechi from Portuguese club Boavista during the January transfer window, according to Portuguese sports daily O Jogo.
The 25-year-old defender has been a standout performer for Boavista this season, contributing three goals and one assist in 18 league matches despite the club's struggles in the Primeira Liga.
Boavista are at the bottom of the Liga Portugal standings with twelve points from eighteen games, a situation that puts them at risk of being relegated to the second-tier league next season.
Onyemaechi has featured in different positions this campaign for Boavista, playing as a defender and left-winger.
His versatility and consistent performances have drawn interest from several clubs, including Trabzonspor and Olympiakos.
Olympiakos are currently leading the race to land the Nigerian international, having initiated negotiations with Boavista.
The Greek giants have tabled an offer of €2.5 million (N4.1 billion in Nigerian currency) and are reportedly eager to finalize the deal quickly, with plans to have Onyemaechi travel to Greece on Thursday, coinciding with their UEFA Europa League clash against Porto.
Trabzonspor were initially rumored to be frontrunners for Onyemaechi, but Olympiakos appear to have taken the lead in negotiations.
Should the transfer materialize, it would provide Onyemaechi an opportunity to compete for titles, feature consistently in European competitions, and further showcase his skills on a larger stage.
With less than two weeks remaining before the winter transfer window closes, both the player and Boavista face a pivotal decision.
A move to Olympiakos could mark a significant step forward in Onyemaechi's career and offer him a platform to reach new heights in European football.
