Butler-Oyedeji: Arteta names 22yo forward in Arsenal's travelling squad for UCL clash against Girona
Published: January 28, 2025Nathan Butler-Oyedeji is in contention to be included in Arsenal's matchday squad for the UEFA Champions League meeting with La Liga opponents Girona on Wednesday night at Estadi Municipal de Montilivi, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has included the Hale End Academy graduate in the travelling squad to Catalonia.
One of the oldest players in Arsenal's development squad, Butler-Oyedeji has been impressive in this season's Premier League 2, tallying seven goals and six assists from ten appearances in the division.
Despite being virtually assured of a place in the gameday squad, the Nigerian forward faces an uphill battle to earn a starting role since he hasn't made his full debut for the first team yet.
Butler-Oyedeji is behind Leandro Trossard, Kai Havertz and Ethan Nwaneri in Arteta's forward pecking order, and with all three traveling with the team, his chances of starting are slim.
Currently third in the Champions League standings with sixteen points heading into the last game in the league phase, Arsenal haven't mathematically booked a spot in the last-16, although their destiny remains under their control.
Butler-Oyedeji has been called up five times for Champions League matches this season, with his debut coming as a substitute against Dinamo Zagreb on January 22.
