'A lot of Nigerian players are very good' - Eric Chelle rallies Super Eagles for World Cup push
Published: January 29, 2025Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has emphasized the importance of staying focused on Nigeria’s upcoming Fifa World Cup qualifiers, stating that his immediate priority is securing results against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
In an interview with the Super Eagles media team, Chelle expressed confidence in his squad but stressed the need for concentration and preparation.
"We are a strong team, and now we need to focus on the World Cup qualification," Chelle said.
"After that, in October, we can think about what comes next. But now, we need to be focused on one goal, and the goal is the next game against Rwanda."
The Super Eagles coach acknowledged the quality of his players, noting their impressive performances at club level.
However, he indicated that squad selection remains an ongoing process.
"Most of them are good. They are playing well. I want to check again against Rwanda and Zimbabwe," he stated. "After that, I will make my first selection. Then we will be ready."
Chelle also emphasized the importance of monitoring players' form and ensuring they are in peak condition for the qualifiers.
"We must focus on following the players. It's very good now, and a lot of Nigerian players are very good," he added. "So we need to be focused and be ready."
Regarding Nigeria's chances, the Super Eagles boss acknowledged the competition but remained optimistic about his team’s ambitions.
"There are a lot of teams. If they deserve to win this Cup, it will be a great fight. But national teams like the Super Eagles can be so ambitious," Chelle concluded.
