'Clearly not in manager’s plans' - Ex-England GK urges Rangers to sign Super Eagles striker on loan

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has backed Rangers to secure a loan move for Nottingham Forest forward Emmanuel Dennis in the January transfer window.

Dennis, who joined Forest in 2022, has struggled for form, managing just two goals and three assists in 25 appearances across all competitions.

His struggles have seen him sent out on multiple loan spells, including stints at Istanbul Başakşehir, and Watford.

Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Robinson explained that Rangers could land the Nigerian forward on loan by covering just 30% of his wages, with Forest willing to subsidize the majority in an effort to offload him.

“The stumbling block is going to be his wages,” Robinson said. "He’s reportedly earning around £4million per year at Nottingham Forest, which is going to be a huge problem for Rangers."

"Rangers would only pay a percentage of that, but Forest seemingly are desperate to get rid of him.

"His wages are going to take a big chunk out of anyone’s budget. Wherever he goes, he’s going to have to take a cut going forward.

"I think while he’s still getting the same salary, Rangers are out of the game unless Forest are going to pay 70% or 80% of his wages and Rangers cover a smaller chunk."

He added that while Rangers may be able to afford a percentage of Dennis’ salary, Forest’s preference is to sell the player rather than send him out on another loan.

"He’s not been in favour since arriving at the City Ground and he’s clearly not in the manager’s plans."

"Ideally, they want to sell, so any loan would have to be an obligation to buy and I don’t think Rangers can afford that at the moment."

Robinson also pointed out that Sheffield Wednesday had previously considered a move but backed out after assessing the financial details of a potential deal.

"But the other stumbling block is the obligation to buy. We know Sheffield Wednesday are looking at him, but they enquired, looked at the deal, and gone."

Despite the financial hurdles, Robinson believes Dennis would be a good fit for Rangers and needs a move to rejuvenate his career.

However, he warned that several clubs might be put off by his price tag and high wage demands.

"I think he’d be a good fit for Rangers, and he does need to move on and rejuvenate his career, but there will be a lot of sides who baulk at his price tag.”

With a few days left to the close of the winter window, Dennis hope to secure a move away to rejuvenate his career.
