Arsenal secured a dominant 5-1 win over Manchester City in a thrilling Premier League clash on Sunday, with precocious attacking midfielder Ethan Nwaneri making a notable contribution.
The 17-year-old capped off a fantastic team performance with a goal in the dying moments of the match, further showcasing his potential as one of Arsenal's brightest prospects.
According to Opta, the England U19 international of Nigerian descent is the second youngest player (17 years and 318 days) to score against a Pep Guardiola team in all competitions in his top-flight career, bettered only by Jude Bellingham (17 years and 289 days).
Nwaneri was introduced in the 84th minute as part of a tactical substitution by manager Mikel Arteta, replacing Leandro Trossard., with the Premier League live scores indicating that the Gunners were 4-1 up.
The young midfielder made an immediate impact, with a brilliant finish to take his tally for the season to an impressive seven in all competitions.
In the third minute of stoppage time, Nwaneri found himself in a perfect position to strike after a delightful cross from Declan Rice.
Controlling the ball with a composed first touch, Nwaneri coolly slotted it into the left side of the goal to make it 5-1.
The goal capped off a comprehensive performance by Arsenal, who had already established a commanding lead with goals from Martin Ødegaard, Thomas Partey, Kai Havertz, and Myles Lewis-Skelly.
His clinical finish further highlighted the strength of Arsenal’s youth system, with the teenager’s composure under pressure proving he can be a key player for the club in the future.
