'A little confused' - Former Lazio midfielder calls out Dele-Bashiru after performance against Cagliari

Former Lazio midfielder Fabio Liverani has expressed his disappointment with the performance of Fisayo Dele-Bashiru in Lazio's 2-1 victory over Cagliari at the Sardegna Arena.

Dele-Bashiru was introduced in the 87th minute, replacing Mattia Zaccagni, but had little time to make an impact on the game.

The 23-year-old, who joined from Turkish club Hatayspor last summer, has struggled to adapt to the demands of Italian football.

So far this season, he has managed just two goals in 14 league appearances, a situation that point to his struggles and inconsistency in the Serie A.

Speaking to NMM via radiosei.it, Liverani questioned the Nigerian international’s form and mental sharpness.

"Yesterday it was difficult to find great motivation. Unconsciously when you have already passed, mentally you concede something," he said.

"Maybe the disappointment on Monday was Dele-Bashiru. I see him back a little confused, not very organized, instead he had made great strides.

"I don't know if it's because he missed some games he thought he would play, I have no idea."

Despite facing challenges in the league, Dele-Bashiru has made a strong impression in the UEFA Europa League with Lazio, netting two goals and providing two assists in six matches.

The Nigerian midfielder aims to translate his European success into consistent performances in the league, which would bolster Lazio's competitiveness both domestically and in European competitions.

The former Manchester City player is also looking to regain his form to secure an invitation to the Super Eagles camp as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Rwanda.

Currently, Nigeria sits fifth in Group C of the qualifiers, at risk of missing out on the tournament, having earned just three points from four games.
