FA Cup: Two Nigerians help Plymouth Argyle end Liverpool's quadruple dream

Two Nigerians were on parade at Home Park on Sunday evening as Plymouth Argyle, the EFL Championship's bottom club, stunned quadruple-seeking Liverpool with a 1-0 victory to reach the Emirates FA Cup fifth round—one of the biggest shocks in the competition's modern era.

While Fulham academy graduate Matthew Sorinola started at wingback, former Nigeria U20 international Muhamed Tijani entered the game as a substitute with eighteen minutes remaining.

Ryan Hardie scored what proved to be the game-winning goal from the penalty spot seven minutes into the second half to write his name into Plymouth Argyle folklore.

Conor Hazard, Plymouth's goalkeeper, also had a fantastic game, pulling off a series of brilliant saves to deny Liverpool an equalizer.

The Pilgrims defended so well for much of the game and didn't give Liverpool a chance for an hour, and did not allow their illustrious visitors to build up their play.

In the last twenty minutes, Plymouth Argyle had to defend with guts and determination as the Reds sought an equalizer.

Although Matthew Sorinola was walking a disciplinary tightrope following his booking in the 78th minute for a foul on Diogo Jota, the defender went the distance and put in an outstanding display.

Tijani nearly put the game to bed in the second minute of stoppage time but his header was blocked by
Harvey Elliott.

Since Wigan's upset against Manchester City in February 2018, Plymouth are the first team from outside the Premier League to eliminate a team top of the Premier League table.
