Flying Eagles ace Daniel Daga makes winning debut for Norwegian club Molde, scores in shootout
Published: February 21, 2025
2023 Fifa U20 World Cup star Daniel Daga made his competitive debut for Molde on Thursday as the Norwegian outfit defeated Shamrock Rovers on penalties to advance to the last 16 of the UEFA Conference League.
Widely regarded as one of Nigeria's biggest talents, Daga joined Molde from FC One Rocket in the January transfer window.
The Flying Eagles ace received his first call-up for the first leg of the Conference League knockout phase playoff tie against Shamrock Rovers on February 13, but remained rooted to the bench.
In the fifth minute of first half extra-time, Daga made his official debut for Molde, coming off the bench to replace Markus André Kaasa, who could not continue after picking up an injury.
Magnus Wolff Eikrem's tenth minute strike sent the game to extra-time and later a penalty shootout.
While all the Molde players, including Daga converted their kicks, Aaron Greene's effort was saved by goalkeeper Jacob Karlstrøm.
Shamrock Rovers coach Stephen Bradley included three players of Nigerian descent in his gameday squad, namely Todd Bazunu, Goodness Ogbona and Charles Akinrintoyo.
Having made his European bow, Daga's next target is to make his Eliteserien debut on March 30 when Molde take on Sarpsborg 08 on the opening day of the 2025 season.
