Nigeria's best possible starting lineup for 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe
Published: March 06, 2025
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will be looking to maintain their dream of qualifying for the 2026 Fifa World Cup when they face off against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in their upcoming World Cup qualifying fixtures.
Following a disappointing 2-1 loss to Benin Republic in their previous encounter, the three-time African champions will be seeking to bounce back and secure maximum points in both games to boost their chances of qualifying for the global football spectacle.
With new head coach Eric Chelle at the helm, the Super Eagles are entering a new chapter of their campaign.
Chelle has unveiled his first-ever provisional squad for the games against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, which has been met with great anticipation by Nigerian football fans.
One of the most notable inclusions is the return of captain Ahmed Musa, who has made a comeback to the national team.
Additionally, veteran defender William Troost-Ekong also returns, bringing experience and leadership to the Super Eagles.
Allnigeriasoccer.com has put together the best possible lineup from the list of players named in the provisional squad.
Goalkeeper: Stanley Nwabali
Stanley Nwabali is set to start between the posts for Nigeria. After impressing in recent domestic and international appearances, Nwabali has emerged as a reliable shot-stopper.
His quick reflexes, agility, and command of the area make him a key asset for the Super Eagles as they prepare to face two tough opponents in the coming qualifiers.
Defenders: Troost-Ekong, Aina, Bassey, and Onyemaechi
The backline will be anchored by the experienced Troost-Ekong, who will partner Calvin Bassey at the heart of defense. Troost-Ekong brings leadership and reliability, while Bassey has been a standout performer for Fulham, known for his physicality and defensive awareness.
On the flanks, Ola Aina will be deployed as the right-back, with his pace and attacking capabilities providing width, while Bruno Onyemaechi will occupy the left-back position.
Onyemaechi’s defensive solidness and ability to contribute to attacks will add balance to the defense.
Midfielders: Ndidi, Onyeka, Iwobi
In midfield, the Super Eagles will rely on Wilfred Ndidi to anchor the middle of the park. Ndidi’s combative nature, ability to break up play, and distribution make him a pivotal figure for Nigeria.
Alongside him will be Frank Onyeka, who will bring his energy and box-to-box capabilities, helping to link defense and attack.
Alex Iwobi will operate as the creative force in the midfield. The Fulham midfielder’s vision, dribbling skills, and playmaking ability will be crucial in breaking down opposition defenses and creating goal-scoring opportunities.
Forwards: Lookman, Chukwueze, and Osimhen
The attacking trio will feature some of Nigeria’s most dangerous talents. On the left wing, Ademola Lookman will look to provide pace and flair, with his ability to cut inside and create opportunities for his teammates.
On the right, Samuel Chukwueze will bring directness and creativity, making runs behind defenses and testing goalkeepers with his powerful shots.
Up front, Victor Osimhen will lead the line as Nigeria’s main striker.
The Galatasaray forward has been in sensational form in the Turkish Super Lig and will be expected to provide the goals that will propel the Super Eagles to victory.
