Official: Nigerian trio await new boss at Southampton as Will Still shown the exit door
Published: November 02, 2025
Will Still has lost his job as Southampton boss following a string of poor results in the English Championship this season, the Saints confirmed via their official website on Sunday evening.
The Belgian tactician came under intense scrutiny after the Saints' 2-0 home defeat to Preston North End on Saturday.
Despite the disappointing result, Still handed Nigerian youngster Nicholas Oyekunle his senior debut, rewarding his impressive performances with the club's youth teams.
Oyekunle came on for Mads Roerslev in the closing stages of the game, moments before Preston sealed the win through Mads Frokjaer-Jensen.
Meanwhile, compatriots Joe Aribo and Samuel Edozie have endured frustrating spells under Still, with both players struggling for game time after proposed moves failed to materialize before the summer window closed for business.
The Super Eagles midfielder, who was a regular for the Saints last season, has logged just four minutes this term, coming in what proved to be Still's final game in charge.
Edozie enjoyed an impressive loan spell in Belgium last season, where he registered four goals and six assists in 32 appearances across all competitions for RSC Anderlecht.
The Saints currently occupy 21st place in the Championship table with just 12 points, sitting three points above the relegation zone.
Aribo, Edozie and Oyekunle will work with Southampton U21s head coach Tonda Eckert until a permanent manager is appointed.
