KALU UCHE Mentors Akhisar Belediyespor Rookie SANI GIDEON
Published: November 21, 2012
Turkish Super League last weekend experienced a battle between two Nigerian players, as Nigeria International Kalu Uche's team Kasimpasa traveled to Akhisar Belediyespor, who have on their payroll unknown Nigerian striker Sani Gideon.
Prior to the encounter, Uche's Kasimpasa had been unbeaten in their last three matches in all competitions, and they maintained that form. Two second half goals in a space of 12 minutes by Hurmacı and Djalma decided the tie in favor of Kasımpaa.
Kalu Uche started the game while his compatriot Sani Gideon came in as second half substitute for Mehmet Yilmaz in the 69th minute and gave a good account of himself.
In his post match comments to allnigeriasoccer.com, Gideon said: ''We played very well but were unlucky. Kasımpaa made use of their chances, so it's just for us to learn from our mistakes and keep working harder. I believe we can be better in our next games.''
Not every professional footballer has the opportunity to be on the same pitch with a player who has scored two goals in the world's premier football competition, the World Cup.
''It was a great opportunity for me, being a young player, to play against Kalu Uche. After the game, we discussed and he encouraged me to keep working harder. I was impressed with his words of encouragement. Hopefully I will be at the top too, it is only a matter of time and chance,'' Gideon declared.
22 - year - old Sani Gideon is yet to open his goal account in the Turkish championship. He has suited up for Akhisar Belediyespor 4 times.
