'She's in hospital' - Adams dedicates first Afcon goal to mum, discusses Osimhen v Lookman beef

Akor Adams celebrated his first Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) goal as Nigeria cruised past Mozambique 4-0 on Monday to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 tournament.

The Super Eagles delivered a commanding performance at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, with Adams playing a key role in the victory.

Reflecting on his goal, Adams expressed gratitude and shared a personal dedication.

He said, "First, glory to God for the privilege to have my first Afcon goal like all of you have been waiting for. But the goal is dedicated to my mom."

He explained the circumstances surrounding his mother’s absence, adding, "She's supposed to be here, but she's in the hospital right now. She was admitted this morning, but she's much better now. I'm happy for the team."

Adams also addressed a minor incident during the match involving Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, which had drawn some attention.

On the misunderstanding, he clarified, "Victor had a fantastic game. Lookman had a fantastic game. So, we came out with the victory and we're happy."

His remarks highlighted the camaraderie and team spirit that underpinned Nigeria’s performance.

The match itself showcased the Super Eagles’ attacking strength and composure. Ademola Lookman opened the scoring in the 20th minute, followed shortly by Victor Osimhen’s first goal.

Osimhen doubled his tally early in the second half, and Adams rounded off the scoring in the 75th minute, ensuring a comfortable victory for Nigeria.

Nigeria’s 4-0 triumph not only marked their first clean sheet of the tournament but also reinforced their credentials as serious contenders for the title.

The team now awaits the winner of the Algeria versus DR Congo quarter-final clash in Marrakech, aiming to build on their flawless start in Morocco.
