Newcastle United attacker Shola Ameobi made his competitive debut for Nigeria's National Team in the 2 - 0 defeat of Malawi.<br /><br />Ameobi's other two appearances came in exhibition matches against South Africa and Venezuela. <br /><br />He would have represented the Super Eagles at the African Cup of Nations but a clause in his contract prevented him from honoring the invitation of the national team selectors.<br /><br />'' Obviously it is a regret that I couldn't make it.
