Fulham star Alex Iwobi has expressed his confidence that Nigeria will be crowned champions of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, having come close in the last edition in Ivory Coast.

The Hale End Academy graduate is the most capped player in the current Super Eagles squad, with 91 international appearances to his name, including eighteen across three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

Iwobi is now focused on the Africa Cup of Nations which begins in Morocco in exactly three weeks time, after the Super Eagles missed out on a World Cup spot following their dramatic loss on penalties to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the African final of the 2026 World Cup qualifying playoffs.

Iwobi emphasised that the Super Eagles have the players to achieve their goal of winning a fourth Africa Cup of Nations.

"We were really close the last Afcon but the only way we can improve on the last Afcon is to win it," Iwobi said to AySuga Channel. 

"We have the players to do it, we believe we can, we just have to prove it."

The upcoming tournament promises stiff competition, with defending champions Ivory Coast, hosts Morocco and Nigeria among the favourites to lift the trophy.

With the Africa Cup of Nations on the horizon, Iwobi shared a message of hope and ambition.

"I would like to speak it into existence, I like to manifest, I want to say Nigeria (will win the Afcon)."

Among active Nigerian players, only former Chelsea centre-back Kenneth Omeruo (20) has made more appearances than Iwobi at the Africa Cup of Nations.
