Moses Simon was able to crack Whoscored.com's 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Team of the Tournament despite Nigeria's early elimination from the competition.
The Nantes winger was involved in the four matches the Super Eagles contested in Cameroon, three of which he started and was in action for 213 minutes.
Simon proved to be the Super Eagles' most potent attacking
threat at the Africa Cup of Nations with his pace and trickery causing problems for the opposition defenders, and finished the tournament with a goal and assist.
As you would expect, the Team of the Tournament is dominated by newly crowned African champions Senegal who have contributed four players, followed by Morocco and Ivory Coast with two players each, while Nigeria, Egypt and Cameroon have one player each in the Best XI.
In a 4-4-2 formation, Simon is deployed as an attacking midfielder with Ivory Coast duo Ibrahim Sangaré (PSV Eindhoven) and Nicolas Pepe (Arsenal) and Morocco's Sofiane Boufal (SCO Angers) completing the
midfield four.
Gabaski (Egypt/Zamalek) starts in goal and the back four contains Achraf Hakimi (Morocco/PSG), Kalidou Koulibaly (Senegal/Napoli), Abdou Diallo (Senegal/PSG) and Saliou Ciss (Senegal/Nancy), while Sadio Mane (Senegal/Liverpool) and Vincent Aboubakar (Cameroon/Al-Nassr) are the two strikers.
The
football statistics website picked Simon as the Man of the Match in
Nigeria's win against Sudan with a rating of 9.05 and he was the
standout player in the 2-0 win versus Guinea Bissau with a 7.90 rating
despite playing only the last 33 minutes.
