Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has denied making comments attributed to him regarding the ongoing case involving FIFA and the dispute between Nigeria national football team and the DR Congo national football team over a potential place in the 2026 World Cup intercontinental play-off.

Reports had earlier circulated claiming the midfielder demanded clarity from world football’s governing body and called for transparency over the petition reportedly filed by the Nigeria Football Federation challenging DR Congo’s qualification.

However, Ndidi has now distanced himself from the alleged remarks.

Speaking on the YouTube programme AYSuga Channel, Ayo Olu Ibadapo said the Super Eagles captain was surprised when the statement was brought to his attention.

According to Ibadapo, Ndidi strongly denied making any such comments about the case currently before FIFA.

“He said he was surprised that I brought it to his attention, as he did not say anything of the sort. He never mentioned or spoke to anyone about it,” Ibadapo said on the programme.

The clarification comes amid growing speculation surrounding Nigeria’s hopes of securing a place in the intercontinental play-off for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The dispute reportedly stems from Nigeria’s challenge over the eligibility of certain players who represented DR Congo during the African play-off stage.

The case has been submitted to FIFA for review, although the governing body has yet to deliver a final ruling on the matter.
