Chelsea have compiled a shortlist of eight goals across all levels for the club's Goal of the Month for August 2021, with an effort from promising Anglo-German-Nigerian right-back Derrick Abu making the cut.
Abu scored the pick of the bunch as Chelsea demolished Tottenham Hotspur 7-2 in an U18 Premier League fixture on August 21.
Three minutes after coming off the bench, the 17-year-old's brilliant shot from outside the box, all the way through the crowd, ended up in the back of the net.
It was his first competitive goal for Chelsea's youth teams and it came in
his thirteenth appearance in the U18 Premier League since debuting in
the division against Crystal Palace in October 2020.
Abu is competing against Chelsea first team stars Romelu Lukaku, Kai Havertz, Marcos Alonso, Trevoh Chalobah and Hakim Ziyech, Chelsea Women's Pernille Harder and U23 star Harvey Vale for the monthly prize.
The 2003-born defender signed a scholarship deal with the Blues in the summer of 2020, before inking his first professional contract in January 2021.
Abu joined the Blues at U11 level after he was spotted by a Chelsea scout when he was playing for local club Coezer FC at a tournament in Spain.
