Former Super Eagles captain and head coach, Sunday Oliseh, has opened up on the challenges he faced while managing the team, revealing that a lack of basic training equipment hampered his work.
The former Juventus midfielder was appointed Super Eagles coach in 2015 following Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations and defend the 2013 title.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Oliseh recounted the harsh conditions he worked under, highlighting the absence of basic training equipment.
"When I was coaching the Super Eagles we did not have the equipment," Oliseh said on the Sunday Oliseh's Global Football Insights Podcast.
"Those were the things I was facing. It was shocking to me because I knew that a top nation like ours, getting sponsors wasn't a difficult thing."
Despite the challenges, Oliseh enjoyed a largely successful spell with the Super Eagles, guiding the CHAN Eagles to qualification for the African Nations Championship in Rwanda.
He also posted impressive results with the senior team, suffering only two defeats, scoring 19 goals and conceding six in 14 matches before resigning in February 2016.
