'There could be a problem' - Hull boss concerned over Ajayi's fitness after Super Eagles duty

Hull City manager Sergej Jakirović is worried about the condition of Semi Ajayi when the defender returns from international duty against Iran and Jordan.

Ajayi was recently included in Nigeria's 23-man squad for the upcoming friendly matches against Iran and Jordan later this month.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Jakirović highlighted the potential risks associated with international travel and the physical demands of the games.

"We may have some problems when they return from the international games - Ivor Pandur (Croatia) is in South America," Jakirovic told the BBC.

"Semi Ajayi (Nigeria ) is in Jordan (Turkey), and Liam Miller is with Canada in Toronto so that could be a problem but we will see when they come back."

The former Arsenal defender only recently returned to action after a spell on the sidelines following an injury sustained during the third-place match against Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Ajayi had been one of Nigeria's standout performers during the tournament before picking up the injury late in the game, forcing him to be substituted in the closing minutes and was replaced by fellow defender Chidozie Awaziem.

Since making his return to club football, the Nigerian International has been gradually regaining match fitness.

He has started two of Hull City's last three fixtures as he works his way back to peak condition.

Despite his progress, Jakirović remains cautious about the defender's workload, especially with the demanding travel schedule and the intensity of international fixtures.

Meanwhile, Ajayi will now be aiming to maintain his improving form while avoiding further injury as the Super Eagles prepare for their friendly encounters against Jordan and Iran.
