Nigeria's caretaker boss Augustine Eguavoen has named Leicester City center back Daniel Amartey and Swindon Town goalkeeper Joseph Wollacott as the two Black Stars players that impressed him the most during the 2022 World Cup playoff against the Super Eagles at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday night.
For all their attacking prowess, with Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Emmanuel Dennis and Ademola Lookman getting minutes, the Super Eagles couldn't find a breakthrough over the course of ninety minutes
In the 33rd minute, Osimhen forced a save from Wollacott, albeit his shot was tame, and seven minutes later Aribo made a terrific run into the box but his effort went over the bar, and in what was Nigeria's best chance of the game to score, Moses Simon had his shot saved by the Ghana goalkeeper.
The Super Eagles head into the fixture at the National Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday evening knowing that they must score to stand a chance of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.
Speaking to the Super Eagles media officer Babafemi Femi at the end of training on Saturday, Eguavoen said : "We have to take the game to Ghana, we tried to take it to them yesterday.
"They were also very tough at the back especially the defence led by Daniel Amartey. He was good, Amartey was good I can tell you.
"The goalkeeper was good as well but we had two or three clear cut chances we should have buried but we were not just calm enough in the box.
"We'll try to work on how we will give some final balls to our attackers to have easy passage to goal."
Nigeria, Africa's most successful team in World Cup history in terms of points accumulated, have qualified for six of the last seven tournaments.
