'To be very honest' - Yira Sor admits he was 'shocked' to receive maiden Super Eagles call-up

Nigerian winger Yira Collins Sor has spoken about his excitement after receiving his first call-up to the Super Eagles for upcoming international friendlies against Iran and Jordan in Antalya, Turkey.

Sor, who currently plays for KRC Genk in the Belgian Pro League, expressed his eagerness to contribute to the national team.

Speaking on his style and approach, he told the Super Eagles Media team, "I am a player with a lot of pace and a player that loves the link-up play. So I hope I can give this to the team and together we can achieve more."

Reflecting on his journey to the senior team, Sor recounted his experience watching the Super Eagles during the recent Africa Cup of Nations.

"Just two months ago in the Afcon I was watching the team on the television and I was nervous," he admitted.

He added, "Every game they played I was supporting the team and two months later I got call up to join this squad."

The winger described the moment of receiving his call-up as a shock but one filled with gratitude.

"It was really a shock for me to be very honest but thank God for everything and you know to represent Nigeria over more than 200 million people something I really see to be an honor, it's a privilege that I must not take for granted and I have to push to the maximum," Sor stated.

Sor’s call-up comes as part of head coach Eric Chelle’s plan to integrate fresh talent into the squad and expand options ahead of upcoming competitive fixtures.

His inclusion follows his previous experience representing Nigeria at youth level, including participation in the 2019 FIFA U‑20 World Cup.

Joining Sor in the squad are other newcomers Emmanuel Fernandez and Philip Otele, forming a mix of experienced internationals and promising young players.

This blend reflects the coaching staff’s strategy to continue building depth in the Super Eagles roster while providing opportunities for emerging talent to gain international experience.

The addition of Sor is expected to bring new energy and creativity to the team’s attacking options, with the winger ready to showcase his skills on the international stage for the first time.
