Tottenham Hotspur academy product Nonso Madueke has withdrawn from England's U21 squad ahead of games against Slovenia and Andorra this month.
The PSV Eindhoven winger of Nigeria descent was initially included on the roster announced by the Football Association four days ago, but has been replaced by Leeds United's Joe Gelhardt after failing to recover from injury.
Madueke has not figured for PSV in their last three matches, missing games against Sturm Graz (Europa League), Willem II Tilburg and Sparta Rotterdam (both Eredivisie) due to a muscle complaint.
The 19-year-old, born in London, is on the radar of the Nigeria Football Federation scouting team with a view to a possible call-up to the Super Eagles if he switches his international allegiance to the three-time African champions.
He has represented England at U16, U17 and U18 levels, and was a member of the Young Lions squad to the 2021 U21 EURO, starting in a 2-0 loss to Portugal back in March.
Ten players of Nigerian descent are in contention to suit up for the Young Lions in international matches in October, including promising Manchester United schoolboy Habeeb Ogunneye who could become provisionally cap-tied.
