Inter Milan and Denmark star Christian Eriksen has sent a reassuring message from his hospital bed after suffering a cardiac arrest in the closing minutes of the first half of the Danes' European Championship match against Finland on Saturday.
With no other players around him, Eriksen suddenly collapsed on the pitch and needed to be the resuscitated by the medical staff who gave him CPR.
The fixture between the two Nordic countries was initially suspended by UEFA but resumed less than two hours later after Eriksen's condition was confirmed to be stable, with the Finns winning 1-0.
"Hello everyone, big thanks for your sweet and amazing greetings and messages from all around the world. It means a lot to me and my family," Eriksen wrote on Instagram on Tuesday morning.
"I'm fine - under the circumstances. I still have to go through some examinations at the hospital, but I feel okay.
"Now, I will cheer on the boys on the Denmark team in the next few matches.
"Play for all of Denmark. Best, Christian."
Two players of Nigerian descent in Tottenham Hotspur academy product Josh Onomah and Bournemouth's Danish-Nigerian midfielder Philip Billing have responded to the post by Eriksen.
Onomah played alongside Eriksen in Tottenham's first team for two years before embarking on loan stints at Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday, then moved to Fulham on a permanent deal.
The Denmark number 10 was on the pitch when Onomah made his Premier League debut against Aston Villa in November 2015.
Nigeria Football Federation target Billing has trained with Eriksen several times whilst on international duty and the ex-Tottenham Hotspur star watched from the bench as the Danish-Nigerian made his Denmark debut against Faroe Islands in October 2020.
Here's how the two Nigeria-eligible players reacted to Eriksen's post :
Philip Billing - "ðŸ™ðŸ½â¤ï¸"
Josh Onomah - "â¤ï¸ðŸ™Œ"
