Trabzonspor's Onuachu on target but misses penalty for the first time in Super Lig career

Trabzonspor missed the opportunity to leapfrog Fenerbahce in the Turkish Super Lig standings after being held to a 1-1 draw by Antalyaspor at Corendon Airlines Park Antalya Stadium on Friday evening.

Before the matchday 20 fixture, Trabzonspor confirmed that their team bus was pelted with stones en route to the away match against Antalyaspor, strongly condemning the despicable attack and calling for those responsible to be swiftly identified and punished.

The visitors trailed at halftime, with Sander van de Streek opening the scoring two minutes before the break.

In the 50th minute, from a right-wing cross into the penalty area, Antalyaspor centre-back Hüseyin Türkmen while attempting to mark Paul Onuachu raised his leg too high and committed a foul, prompting the referee to immediately point to the penalty spot.

Onuachu took his tally in the Super Lig to 13 goals in seventeen outings as he converted the penalty despite the ball hitting goalkeeper Julián Cuesta's foot.

Eleven minutes from time, Trabzonspor were awarded another penalty after a VAR review ruled that Türkmen had handled the ball.

However, Onuachu was denied by Cuesta, with the Antalyaspor goalkeeper producing a fine save with his feet.

It marked the first penalty miss of the Nigeria international's Super Lig career, having previously converted his first five spot-kicks against Ivo Grbić, Bilal Bayazıt, Muhammed Şengezer, Bahadır Güngördü and Cuesta.

Onuachu is the joint-leading scorer in the Süper Lig alongside Başakşehir FK's Eldor Shomurodov, who has played two more matches than the Africa Cup of Nations returnee.
