Watford star William Troost-Ekong has admitted that the Super Eagles defence needs improvement ahead of their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone in Freetown.
The three-time African champions have managed only one clean sheet in their last twelve appearances and that came against Tunisia in the third place playoff in the 2019 AFCON.
Of the 48 teams involved in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, only Zambia, Eswatini and Libya have a worse defensive record than Gernot Rohr's team having conceded seven goals from three games.
Troost-Ekong, whose performance against the Leone Stars was below his usual standard, says the defenders have been talking among themselves to make the unit stronger.
The aerial ability of the defenders and goalkeepers is questionable after conceding three goals via headers in qualifying.
Asked by reporters if the defenders are talking to themselves, Troost-Ekong replied : "Yes, Of course, all of us, that is an ongoing thing, even if we had won the game 4-0 yesterday there are things that we still have to improve.
"That's what happens every game, we have to grow and we are going to be ready for the next game."
The Super Eagles are scheduled to fly out to Freetown on Monday morning ahead of tomorrow's matchday four AFCON qualifying fixture at the National Stadium in Sierra Leone.
