UCL debut for son of former Super Eagles CB in Cub Brugge's defeat to Arsenal

Kaye Furo, son of former Super Eagles centre-back Iyenemi Furo, made his UEFA Champions League debut on Wednesday night as Club Brugge fell 3-0 to Arsenal at the Jan Breydel Stadium.

The 18-year-old forward was introduced in the 67th minute, replacing Hugo Siquet, as the Belgian side attempted to rally after a dominant display from the visitors.

Arsenal secured the victory through a brace from summer signing Noni Madueke and a well-taken goal from Gabriel Martinelli, maintaining their strong grip at the top of the league.

Despite the result, Furo made the most of his cameo appearance, registering four touches and forcing goalkeeper David Raya into a save, offering a glimpse of the attacking talent that has earned him growing attention in Belgium.

Before the match, Furo had been named in the matchday squad twice, against Bayern Munich and Monaco, but had not featured.

His performances in the Belgian Pro League have been impressive, with the youngster scoring once in four league appearances, including a goal in the recent 3-2 loss to Sint-Truidense.

The defeat leaves Club Brugge 31st on the log and facing the threat of an early exit from the competition.

Nevertheless, Furo’s debut marks an important personal milestone, and he will hope to build on the experience as Brugge prepare for their upcoming league fixture against Dender on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Nigerian international Raphael Onyedika was withdrawn in the 74th minute, with Hugo Vetlesen coming on as his replacement.
