Premier League giants Chelsea made it seven wins on the bounce in all competitions after beating Swedish champions Malmo 1-0 on matchday four of the UEFA Champions League at the Eleda Stadion on Tuesday evening.
Super Eagles midfielder Innocent Bonke, who is out of favour with the national team following his omission from the latest Nigeria squad, remains a key player for Malmo, and being named in the starting lineup vs the Blues meant he has started all the matches played by the Swedish side in the Champions League.
Bonke didn't look out of placing facing one of the best midfielders on the planet, Jorginho, and England international Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
The Nigerian defensive midfielder contributed to keeping their illustrious opponents at arm's length until they broke the deadlock in the 56th minute.
Chelsea had chances to open the scoring in the first half but were frustrated by the Malmo defence and saves by goalkeeper Johan Dahlin.
Hakim Ziyech's goal proved the difference, the Morocco international slotting in at the far post after a glorious pass from Hudson-Odoi.
Chelsea effectively maintained possession after the goal and were able to protect their lead.
The European champions were second heading into the game against Malmo and remain in the same position, with nine points from a possible twelve in Group H.
