Victor Boniface's chapter at Werder not closed: Leverkusen striker set for return before season's end

Victor Boniface's story with Werder Bremen may yet have another twist as the Bayer Leverkusen loanee is reportedly set to return to action before the end of the 2025-2026 season.

The Nigeria international has not played competitively for Werder Bremen since December 7, 2025 when he lasted eleven minutes on the pitch in a 3-2 loss at Hamburg.

Since then, the Bayer Leverkusen loanee has been unavailable for selection for fourteen consecutive Bundesliga matches after undergoing knee surgery.

According to authoritative German newspaper Bild (subscription required), Boniface  will return to Werder Bremen on Tuesday to begin individual training.

The Bayer Leverkusen-owned centre-forward is expected to gradually reintegrate into full team sessions thereafter, with a potential return to Bundesliga action targeted before the end of April.

Boniface’s potential return would come as a major boost for Werder Bremen manager Daniel Thioune, who is currently grappling with limited attacking options.

Keke Topp is expected to be sidelined for several months after sustaining an injury in training during the international break, while Jovan Milosevic continues his recovery from a back problem.

Prior to his spell on the sidelines, Boniface appeared in eleven matches for Werder Bremen, providing two assists.
