'Victor is a fighter, Lookman is a fighter' - Awaziem reacts to on-field tension during win v Mambas

Nigeria defender Chidozie Awaziem addressed concerns about a brief on-field incident during the Super Eagles’ 4-0 victory over Mozambique on Monday, emphasizing that tensions between players were simply part of the competitive spirit in football.

Speaking in the mixed zone after the match at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, Awaziem clarified that there was no ongoing issue among teammates.

On the incident involving Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Ndidi, Awaziem explained, "All I can say is that it's a football thing, you know, everyone wants to win. If Victor wants to win, Victor's a fighter. Ademola is a fighter. Ndidi is a fighter. Everyone is a fighter. Akor, I mean, everyone wants the ball to score." He emphasized that the disagreement was minor and motivated by players’ desire to succeed.

Awaziem further reassured fans that the matter had been fully resolved, saying, "Everyone wants to win at any time. So I think it's just a football thing. So and now the issue has been solved. Everyone is cool."

His comments highlighted the professionalism within the squad and the importance of team unity as Nigeria advances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

He also praised his teammates individually, confirming that the squad remains united and focused on upcoming challenges.

Awaziem stated, "Victor is cool. Ademola is cool. Ndidi is cool. Everyone is good. So we just focus on the next game now. We don't have no issues with us."

Nigeria dominated Mozambique throughout the match, with Ademola Lookman opening the scoring in the 20th minute, followed by two goals from Victor Osimhen and a late strike from Akor Adams.

The team’s performance combined attacking fluency with defensive discipline, resulting in a first clean sheet at the tournament for the Super Eagles.

With this win, Nigeria progresses to the quarter-finals and awaits the winner of the Algeria versus DR Congo clash.
