Chelsea fans heaped praise on Anglo-German-Nigerian fullback Derrick Abu for his outstanding performance during the Blues' 3-2 win over Blackpool in the quarterfinals of the FA Youth Cup on Thursday.
The exciting right-back was involved in the build-up to all three goals scored by Chelsea against the Seasiders at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea secured the win courtesy of Charlie Webster who converted a penalty awarded after Abu was fouled in the area in the 72nd minute.
Prior to making his debut for England U17s, the skillful right-back wanted to play for the Golden Eaglets at the
2019 U17 World Cup but failed to establish contact with the Nigeria
Football Federation and coach Manu Garba.
He models his game after former Barcelona star Dani Alves and Real Madrid's
Marcelo, and also watches Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold
because of his crossing abilities.
Some Chelsea fans were optimistic for the future, saying that Abu has the potential to become a first-team player.
Here's what they are saying on Twitter :
@Babs98th : "Derrick Abu looks insane".
@_Greazemoden : "Went to watch these lot tonight Derrick Abu what a player chelsea".
@CFC_Felix_ : "Harvey Vale, Charlie Webster, Derrick Abu & Prince Adegoke all absolutely exceptional today. 💫
Everyone else was also brilliant, great result & through to the next round of the FA Youth Cup".
@AQChelsea1 : "Abu looks very good to me."
@ibb_v2 : "I keep telling everyone you would have to go down to the U15s to find a full back worse than Azpiss & Alonso. Derrick Abu is so clear"
@FutbolKhan : "Derrick Abu is an absolute demon full-back. Incredible in-swinger from just right of the James crossing zone but a more powerful runner, been all over Blackpool tonight with his chance creation and ball carrying."
@DanielCook107 : "Derrick Abu has been quality tonight #fayouthcup".
@kudaaa09 : "Derrick Abu is special".
@ibb_v2 : "Well well well.... Would you look at that.Another fullback that is clear of Azpiss. Derrick Abu take a bow".
@kudaaa09 : "Get Derrick Abu or Lewis hall in the first team. They can do better than Alonslow".
