'You faced Nigeria, the toughest team in the tournament' - Egypt legend backs Morocco to beat Senegal

Egyptian football legend Mohamed Aboutrika, currently serving as an analyst for Qatari sports channel beIN Sports, has praised Morocco’s national team following their dramatic semi-final victory over Nigeria in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Aboutrika highlighted Morocco’s hard-fought win against the Super Eagles, describing Nigeria as the toughest team in the tournament.

Speaking during his post-match analysis, Aboutrika was quoted as saying by Elbotola: “You faced Nigeria, the toughest team in the tournament. God willing, the final will be easier than the match against Nigeria, and you deserve it after your excellent performance in the competition.”

The Moroccan national team secured their place in the final after a tense penalty shoot-out against Nigeria.

The match ended 0-0 after extra time, with Morocco prevailing 4-2 in the shoot-out. Morocco’s victory extended their hopes of claiming their first Africa Cup of Nations title in 50 years and set up a final clash with Senegal next Sunday.

Aboutrika further expressed confidence in Morocco’s chances against the West African side, stating: “Senegal doesn't know how to play against the host country, and God willing, congratulations in advance to Morocco.”

The semi-final win marked a significant achievement for Morocco, who had maintained composure throughout a tightly contested match.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles had entered the semi-final with a perfect record in the 2025 tournament, having previously defeated Tunisia and Algeria in the earlier rounds.

With the final set for sunday, Morocco aim to capitalize on their momentum and the advantage of hosting the tournament, while the Super Eagles reflect on a strong tournament performance that fell just short of a place in the final.
