Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has totally ruled out the possibility of inviting new players to strengthen the national team ahead of their participation in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
The German football tactician previously admitted that the likes of Derby County's Efe Ambrose, Fortuna Düsseldorf youth-teamer Maduka Okoye and Wolfsburg's Felix Uduokhai were on his radar ahead of the tournament in Egypt but it appears he has changed his mind.
In addition, fit-again Brentford defender and ex-Nigeria U23 invitee Moses Odubajo, who was Nigeria's first-choice for the right back position until he picked up a long-term injury and has committed his international future to the Super Eagles, is not in contention to be named on the AFCON roster.
''It will be difficult now to invite brand new players to this group, that's why we invited some of them here to see and already they played against Seychelles,'' Rohr said at Tuesday evening's press conference attended by allnigeriasoccer.com.
''Now we have to focus on the harmony of the team, so now it's not to make new experiments because we have our team together.
''Perhaps we will start with 28 players and then possibly we'll reduce to 23. But brand new players, if we don't find any old player from the past, we don't consider new players but we are scouting.''
Rohr is expected to announce the Super Eagles provisional Africa Cup of Nations roster in May 2019.
