Three-time African champions Nigeria posted another win in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, defeating Liberia 2-0 at the Stade Ibn Batouta in Tangier, a result that sees them needing to avoid defeat in their final Group C fixture to qualify for the playoff round.

Two changes were made from the team that beat Central African Republic on matchday four, with Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi and Everton winger Alex Iwobi both coming into the side.

Here are four observations that allnigeriasoccer.com took away from the win against Liberia.

1. Fast Start For The Eagles, Slow First Half Finish

Nigeria started the game on a fast note and scored in the 14th minute although their performance level dropped off towards the end of the half with easy chances missed by the Nigerian players.

2. Solid Defence

The defenders were disciplined at the back and never gave the Liberian much time on the ball.

The Nigerians were however lucky not to have been punished with a penalty kick in the second half.

3. Osimhen Needs Better Services

The Super Eagles midfielders were more of grafters than creative ones. Perhaps the team still lacks that gem whose defence solid passes will unlock the opposition's defence.

4. The Right Back Assurance

The Super Eagles right-back position seem to be the one position with assurance of true quality present.

Chidozie Awaziem plays with heart whenever he slots in that position. So also Ola Aina who is more adept in the attacking phase of the game.

The Boavista loanee impressed playing on the right side of a three-man central defence against Liberia.

There are also good players in the left-back position but it is more difficult to predict who starts at number 2 if and when all the players in that position are available for selection and in form.
