The Nigerian U17 women's national team, the Flamingos, kicked off their 2024 FIFA U17 Women's World Cup campaign in style, defeating New Zealand 4-1 at Estadio Cibao. 

Three players stole the spotlight with exceptional performances.

Faridat Abdulwahab

Faridat Abdulwahab was instrumental on the left hand side of the midfield, posing constant threats with her vision and ball control. 

Her persistence paid off with a brilliant goal from outside the area, showcasing her skill and composure. Abdulwahab's work rate and creativity left the New Zealand defense struggling to contain her.

Shakirat Moshood

Shakirat Moshood proved unstoppable, leveraging her pace to devastating effect. Her midfield bursts created scoring opportunities, and her beautifully taken goal underscored her attacking prowess. 

Moshood's tireless work ethic, pressing opponents and winning possession, made her a nightmare to contend with.

Taiwo Adegoke

Taiwo Adegoke delivered a masterclass performance at right back, blending defensive solidity with attacking flair. 

Her ability to invert into half spaces and press opponents allowed her to release teammates into scoring positions. 

Adegoke's defensive prowess was equally impressive, avoiding errors throughout the match.
