Ebenezer Akinsanmiro has reflected on the early experiences that shaped his European career, describing his time at Inter Milan and participation in the Viareggio Cup as key milestones in his development.
The Nigerian midfielder, who currently plays for Pisa SC on loan from Inter, shared his thoughts during a short interview posted on the tournament’s social media channels
Akinsanmiro explained that the Viareggio tournament marked his first experience of playing football in Europe and played a crucial role in his growth as a player.
"I have good feelings, and the Viareggio tournament was the first time I played in Europe," Akinsanmiro said in an interview with the Viareggio tournament Facebook page.
"It was a great experience that allowed me to test myself and learn technical wisdom, even at a young age. I really enjoy this tournament."
The former Remo Stars midfielder added that the competition helped accelerate his development and contributed significantly to his progress over the years.
"It's helped me improve my game. I've grown a lot, especially this year, but also thanks to the tournament," he added.
The 21-year-old also spoke about the impact of joining Inter Milan in 2023, describing the opportunity as a major turning point in his career.
"Playing for Inter was a big thing, it gave me so much strength. Now I play for Pisa and it's a great experience, it really helps me grow," Akinsanmiro said.
"I remember the first time I played in Viareggio, thanks to this tournament I'm where I am today."
Akinsanmiro joined Pisa on loan from Inter in the summer of 2025 following a successful loan tenure at Sampdoria.
Since arriving at the Italian club, he has gradually established himself as an important figure in midfield.
This season, the young midfielder has made 14 league appearances and contributed one assist, continuing his steady development in Italian football.
His impressive performances at club level also earned him international recognition with the Nigeria national football team.
He received his first senior call-up ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and was included in Nigeria’s squad for the tournament.
Akinsanmiro made his debut for Nigeria in a preparatory friendly against Egypt national football team, a match the Super Eagles lost 2–1.
