Former Rangers boss helping Feyenoord in their pursuit of Super Eagles defender

Former Rangers boss Dick Advocaat has become a central figure in Feyenoord's bid to sign Emmanuel Fernandez ahead of the summer transfer window.

Fernandez, who joined Rangers from Peterborough United last summer, has attracted growing interest from several European clubs following a string of impressive performances in Scotland.

The 24-year-old defender is also reportedly on the radar of Premier League sides Arsenal FC and West Ham United.

With competition intensifying for his signature, Feyenoord are understood to be leaning on Advocaat’s experience and knowledge of Rangers as they weigh up a potential high-value move for the Nigerian international.

The former Rangers boss is said to be playing an advisory role to head coach Robin van Persie as the Rotterdam club prepares for a significant squad rebuild ahead of the 2026/2027 campaign.

According to reports from the Daily Record, Advocaat has been assisting in the identification and assessment of priority transfer targets, with Fernandez viewed as a strong candidate to bolster Feyenoord’s defensive options.

The Eredivisie side have already taken concrete steps in their scouting process, dispatching a representative to monitor Fernandez during Rangers’ dramatic 6-3 comeback victory over Falkirk FC.

After a challenging start to the season under Russell Martin, Fernandez has enjoyed a resurgence, establishing himself as a regular figure under Danny Röhl in the second half of the campaign.

His consistent displays have also earned him recognition at international level with Nigeria national football team.

As the transfer window approaches, Fernandez is expected to remain focused on maintaining his form as Rangers continue their push for the league title.

Meanwhile, Feyenoord are set to closely monitor his situation, hopeful of securing his services as part of their long-term squad strengthening plans.
