Werder Bremen midfielder Cameron Puertas has spoken highly of his teammate Victor Boniface, praising the Nigerian striker’s qualities and expressing hope that he can overcome his injury setback and make a strong impact for the club.
Boniface, who joined Werder on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, has endured a difficult spell in Germany, largely disrupted by a recurring knee injury that has limited his availability this season.
Despite the setback, he has continued his rehabilitation and is gradually working his way back towards full fitness, with the club cautiously optimistic about his return to action before the end of the campaign.
Puertas, who has developed a close relationship with the striker in the dressing room, believes Boniface brings rare attributes that could significantly benefit the team once fully fit.
“Boni could be a great asset to the team. He has qualities that not many players possess. It would be a real bonus for us if he were with us. He would definitely benefit the team,” Puertas told the club’s official website.
Puertas also highlighted Boniface’s determination during a challenging season marked by injury struggles, noting the forward’s positive attitude within the squad environment.
“The season hasn't been easy for him, especially with the knee injury. We sit next to each other in the locker room, talk things over, and joke around. I sincerely hope that it works out for him and that he can finish the season on a positive note,” he added.
Boniface’s loan move to Werder was seen as an opportunity for regular minutes after his time at Bayer Leverkusen, where he had previously shown strong form before injury interruptions.
However, his progress in Bremen has been hampered by fitness issues, limiting his contribution so far.
Recent reports suggest Werder remain hopeful that the striker can still play a role in the closing stages of the season, depending on his recovery trajectory and ability to regain match sharpness in training.
