The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations groups were drawn in Yaoundé on Tuesday, August 17 with the 24 qualified teams divided into six groups.
Unarguably the standout match of the group stage will see the Super Eagles face Egypt, while the other two countries in Group D are Sudan and Guinea Bissau.
Group D has three former winners of the Africa Cup of Nations, namely the Pharaohs who won the competition in 1957, 1959, 1986 , 1998, 2006 , 2008 and 2010, the Super Eagles champions in 1980, 1994 and 2013, and Sudan who lifted the trophy in 1970.
Nigeria will open their campaign against Egypt at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium, Garoua on January 11, 2022 with a kickoff of 1700 hours.
Sudan await the Super Eagles at the same venue on January 15 and the three-time African champions will finish their group campaign against Guinea Bissau on January 19.
Should Gernot Rohr's men progress to the last sixteen as group winners, they will face one of the third ranked teams in Group B, E or F.
The Africa Cup of Nations tournament will be held between January 9 and February 6, 2022 in Cameroon.
