Manager Gernot Rohr believes Odion Ighalo still has something to offer to the Super Eagles ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The former Manchester United striker called time on his international career after the AFCON 2019 in Egypt, where he finished as top scorer with five goals.
For now talks with Ighalo over reversing his decision to quit the national team have not yielded any positive outcome but Rohr is still hoping to lure him to Cameroon.
Current Super Eagles number 9 Victor Osimhen has a mentor-mentee relationship with Ighalo and Rohr is confident that the Napoli star will flourish even more if the Al-Shabab striker is in the squad.
"Unfortunately, Ighalo retired but I think perhaps he could come back to help us with his experience in the attack.
"That is the idea we have, we are still in touch with him, he is not ready for the moment but there is a chance he could help also our young player Osimhen with his experience".
Since moving to Saudi Arabia in the winter transfer
market, Ighalo has proved that he still has it in him to deliver goals,
netting an impressive 11 in fifteen matches.
